The Mummies - 1994 Peel Sessions (1994)

Artist(s): The Mummies
Title: 1994 Peel Sessions
Format: 7"
Year: 1994
Label/Catalog: ("bootleg")

According to THE MUMMIES themselves, this is a bootleg. A number of things strike me as that not being entirely true. For one, who else besides THE MUMMIES would have one side play at 45RPM and the other at 33 1/3, but have both sides labeled as 45? Well, a lot of bands, but it's an asshole move akin to THE MUMMIES antics of norm. The other thing is that they included this on the second volume of their Runnin' On Empty compilation of singles/rarities (hell, all stuff from THE MUMMIES is essentially a rarity)/etc. So who really knows. What we do know is, it's THE MUMMIES and it's the John Peel Sessions. March 13, 1994.

I have to mention that you hear a continuing (albeit slightly buried in the mix) thumping every rotation on A1 ("The Fly"), but after 18 seconds it's gone for good. Caused by a little spec on the record. One other thing I'll have to note is that for a split second after a couple of the tracks you can hear someone start to talk, but then it fades out and continues on to the next song. They removed these split-second moments for Runnin' On Empty Vol 2, but for the sake of accurate archiving I have left them in tact. And, sadly, we get no John Peel or MUMMIES banter like what we're treated to on the Uncontrollable Urge b/w Girl U Want "bootleg" 7", which are cuts from this incredible show in Hollywood, September 6, 1991.
